Removing odors from watches

After long daily use, watch bands will develop an odor, especially if not cleaned properly or regularly. This is especially common with non-metal bands, such as nylon or leather. Luckily, it is surprisingly simple to remove unwanted scents from watch bands with a few simple ingredients. The odor is usually cased by body oil residue left upon the watch combined with dirt and grime and bacteria growth.

What you need is a bit of soap and water. Take off the straps and rub a small bit of mild soap onto the leather. Take a damp rag to gently rub off the soap and store the watch band in a dry area until completely dry. If the scent still remains, try using a paste of equal amounts baking soda and water. Rub the paste onto the band and allow it to sit an hour or so to draw out the scent before washing it off and letting it dry. This should remove most stains and odors. If the band is leather, use a bit of olive oil or saddle soap to restore the luster by polishing it on.
